Functional skills maths is designed for learners aged 14+ but primarily used as a qualification in adult employment paths or to top up school qualifications through a functional skills qualification.
The qualification is assessed at Entry Levels (1, 2, 3) and Levels 1 and 2.
This page focuses on the Level 1 and 2 functional skills courses. Courses are divided into three areas:
(1) Using numbers and the number system. This mainly relates to learning about whole numbers, fractions, decimals and percentages, as well as ratios.
(2) Using common measures, shape and space. This relates to money, time, weight, length, area, capacity, and to angles and directions.
(3) Handling information and data. This relates to ideas in statistics including tables, diagrams, charts and graphs, means, medians and modes of data, and probabilities.
