Peer Pressure

Peer Pressure (including : gangs)

The desire to fit in is totally natural and human. It gives us social reassurance to know we are liked or have a level of value or respect in a group. But sometimes it can be the reason for embarking on a risky life style though, or make it hard to get on with your own interests, or express yourself the way you would like.

Avoiding getting too drawn into peer pressure might just be about asserting your own self more - forming a more individual concept of who you are. You should still be able to be friends with people  when you do that - or else, presumably, they weren't really your friends. So it could be good to just get the nerve to experiment and challenge some expectations.  And see how people react.  As often as not, they would like and respect you more, once they get used to the change.

Some group bonding is healthy and it's only a problem if you end up  not able to say or do the things you need to for you. It's probably about getting that happy mix between sharing your styles with others and having your own style.  If you can do both those things together reasonably ok, chances are, you're in a good frame of mind for life.

The Hip-Hop genre talks a lot of truth about the realities - conscious and golden age gives a lot of the more thoughtful deeper meanings which might be of help. And can, 4 sure, do your own thing ... but hold head up high in doing so.
